VOTE OF THANKS FROM THE FOUNDER:
“As a result of the less than comforting political atmosphere within The Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, the DAF Social Media Poll Team has executed the 7th DAF Social Media Poll in an effort to garner public opinion as well as to heighten social awareness with the intention of effecting positive change.
We requested your participation in this poll, which sought to garner group opinion on GOVERNMENT’S CREDIBILITY. We asked who you believed is best qualified to be Minister of National Security of Trinidad & Tobago at this time. We presented you with 8 options from which one was to be selected. This will be further examined in our analysis of your responses below.
As we continue to grow both in number and in social awareness, we remind you that the DAF Social Media Poll is the first in Trinidad and Tobago, and is primarily used as a tool to inform and educate. With the assistance you have provided, by way of the contributions you have made, we have a clearer view of how current events impact you personally. As a result of your contributions we have an increased understanding of how family and social life, development, governance and business are all affected by public opinion. Thank you for your kind participation. Please continue to contribute knowing that we can all improve society when we work together to achieve this objective.”

INTRODUCTION:
On January 29th, 2011 David A.M. Fraser and the DAF Social Media Poll Team executed the 7th DAF Social Media Poll through DAVID FRASER’S GROUP. Polling was done via Facebook. Polling took place from January 29th, 2011 through January 31st, 2011. This report is shared with you in our continued effort to ensure that facts and figures are represented clearly and openly. It is our hope that this report conveys to you the significance we place on your participation. This poll was formatted by way of asking; WHO YOU BELIEVE IS BEST QUALIFIED TO BE THE MINISTER OF NATIONAL SECURITY OF TRINIDAD & TOBAGO AT THIS TIME, from the options we presented to you. This report goes on to assess your responses.
OUR AIM:
It is our aim to test GOVERNMENT’S CREDIBILITY in relation to the post of Minister of National Security thereby enhancing our understanding of the vision the present government has for the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago. It is through understanding that we can measure what necessary improvements ought to be made and instigate processes whereby such improvements are implemented.
Remember it is your voice – the voice of the people - that has the power to ensure positive change. Equipped with your contributions to the DAF Social Media Poll, together, we have the ability to impact nations in an optimal manner.
METHODOLOGY:
We collated information through every form of secure online media available to us in an effort to fulfill our aim. In so doing we are better able to assess issues as well as disseminate the said assessments in a timely fashion. We have further taken into account those persons who may form fictitious names and pages to promote varying interests that would also vote in such a poll.
We poll persons who are genuine, persons whom we actually know. We apply a discounting rate to accommodate the phenomenon of phantom users who attempt to deter progress in any shape or form. Being mindful of the fact that there are persons involved in such activities, we take this opportunity to reassure you that we will continue to refine the DAF Social Media Poll model in a bid to improve accuracy and reliability of the data presented thereby ensuring your voice is heard in our effort to establish a positive impact for all.

From the information charted in figures 1, 2, and 3, it is clearly illustrated that 29% of contributors selected Brigadier John Sandy whilst 16% of contributors chose Ramesh Lawrence Maharaj. This left Vernon De Lima with 10% of the votes and A.G. Anand Ramlogan with 3%. No contributors selected Joseph Toney, Gary Griffith, Roy Augustus or the Honourable Prime Minister Kamla Persad Bissessar in response to the question “WHO DO YOU BELIEVE IS BEST QUALIFIED TO BE THE MINISTER OF NATIONAL SECURITY OF TRINIDAD & TOBAGO AT THIS TIME?”
ANALYSIS:
Members were requested to respond by indicating their selection in relation to the options that were open for selection as shown in Figure 1 of this report. A rather interesting turn of events then proceeded to fall into place. We say this since 42% of contributors decided that they were unable to vote for any of the 8 persons we offered for selection. Indeed with this new happenstance we were compelled to investigate the reasoning behind it all.
Do note that all contributors to the 7th DAF Social Media Poll are members of the David Fraser Group. This essentially means they are accountable as well as genuine and not merely any fabrication of someone’s imagination. Though contributors were generally reluctant to share the reasoning behind their choice or lack thereof, we have derived certain patterns for them having arrived to the choice of selecting NONE OF THE ABOVE.
Contributors who emphatically stated they could not choose from any of the eight selections had one thing in common; they required more information from which to make a decision. Upon request, some contributors directly informed us here at the The DAF Social Media Poll Team that they had even gone so far as to attempt to research for information on the 8 persons but were unable to locate sufficient information to make an informed decision.
One contributor went so far as to provide us with the following feedback, “RE: Poll. I think a little synopsis of who each person is/was would have helped." We value such feedback and those who took the time from their busy schedules to send such constructive information to us.
What this feedback indicates is this, people require information. People have a right to know about those who lead them as well as those whom they have voted into power. All leaders must come to the realisation that leadership requires accountability and must be seen as more than just a job. We may even go so far as to say that it ought to be regarded as a calling. When one holds within their hands the responsibility of leading others; one must recognise that this responsibility is not to be taken lightly. It ought to be treated with the utmost respect. It is imperative that the respect in question be bestowed upon those whom leaders lead.
SAMPLE SIZE:
8.2% of David Fraser’s Group voted on this poll through Facebook. This indicates that there is a steady flow of contributors who may now be termed active contributors to our polls. This steady, stable activity further indicates that contributors are interested in voicing their opinions with the intention of making an impact for positive change.
HOW THE SAMPLE WAS TAKEN:
The sample was taken by way of information collated from the online contributions made by Members of David Fraser’s Group on Facebook. Once again our valued members were contacted via Facebook inbox messages as well as a visible poll on the David Fraser Group’s page. Information was analysed and presented in relation to the percentage of Members who cast their vote via this social media poll. The opinion of the largest percent of contributors who shared that they were unable to choose any of the options presented to them, for reasons they gave us, was also considered in this report. This highlights that all voices were heard, all opinions relevant to this 7th DAF Social Media Poll were taken into account.
CONCLUSION:
The 7th DAF Social Media Poll clearly indicates that the largest percent of contributors elected to refrain from selecting any of the 8 choices presented to them. This was 42% of contributors of this poll. 29% of contributors selected Brigadier John Sandy whilst 16% of contributors chose Ramesh Lawrence Maharaj. This left Vernon De Lima with 10% of the votes and A.G. Anand Ramlogan with 3%. No contributors selected Joseph Toney, Gary Griffith, Roy Augustus or the Honourable Prime Minister Kamla Persad Bissessar.
As stated in the above analysis, indeed leadership is a role not to be taken lightly and in 2011 it is a role that requires leaders to be beyond reproach. Those whom they are leading are not settling for anything but best effort and best practice. It is noteworthy that the contributions of Members of David Fraser’s Group in this poll indicates that we are certainly on the path of social awareness and education which leads us as a group, to increased success . Together we are indeed and in fact building successful nations.
Respectfully Submitted,
The DAF Social Media Poll Team
