6th DAF SOCIAL MEDIA POLL

DATE: January 27th 2011

REPORT OF 6th DAF POLL No.
0120112706

DAF Social Media Poll was created to monitor public opinion on

issues locally as well as internationally.

VISION STATEMENT:

The DAF Social Media Poll is designed to garner public opinion on various issues both locally and internationally. Our expectation is that information hereby collated is put into action for an improved society and improved total life experience for all citizens and residents of Trinidad and Tobago. In making such improvements we shall touch lives both locally as well as globally thereby improving lives from country to country.

VOTE OF THANKS FROM THE FOUNDER:

“As signals continue to emanate from the present Government regarding the appointment of the former Director of the Security Intelligence Agency (SIA) Ms. Reshmi Usha Ramnarine. Several Members of Parliament and Ministers have commented on the situation. It seems that the matter now falls to the head of the Cabinet, the Honourable Kamla Persad Bissessar M.P., and Prime Minister of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago.

We requested your participation in this poll, which sought to garner group opinion, as to what is your perceived best course of action, the government should adopt in bringing closure to this issue. Your response was almost instantaneous on this occasion. For this we thank you as we realise that your quick response is a reflection of your need to voice your concerns on the matter. We further recognise that you are indeed socially aware and willing to ensure the fates of Trinidad and Tobago prosper rather than decline.

DAF Social Media Poll is the first in Trinidad and Tobago, and is primarily used as a tool to inform and educate. Your contributions have been very important in helping us have a glimpse at how public opinion can impact you personally. As a result of your contributions we see more and more how family and social life, development, governance and business are all affected by public opinion. Thank you for your participation. Please continue to contribute knowing that we can all improve society when we work together to achieve an objective.”

Respectfully Submitted,

INTRODUCTION:

On January 27th, 2011 David AM Fraser executed the sixth poll for the group DAVID FRASER’S GROUP via Facebook. Once again we are sharing this report with you in an effort to ensure facts and figures are represented clearly and openly. We are using this report as a tool whereby we communicate to you the importance and appreciation of your participation.

This poll was formatted by way of asking the question “Should the Prime Minister make a statement and clear the air regarding the appointment of Reshmi Usha Ramnarine as Spy Chief?”
This report goes on to assess your responses.

Our Aim:

It is our aim to test the reasons for any less than desirable performance on the part of the Government in the matter of the appointment of a Spy Chief. In so doing we may be better able to understand the vision the present government has for the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago. With this understanding we will be equipped to decipher and then put into action what we can to improve the situation at hand.

Always remember that it is your voice that has the power to ensure positive change is implemented. Armed with your contributions to the DAF Social Media Poll, together, we have the ability to impact nations in a more optimal manner.

METHODOLOGY:

We collate information through every form of secure online media available to us in an effort to fulfill our aim. In so doing we are better able to assess issues as well as disseminate the said assessments in a timely fashion.

ASSESSMENT:

QUESTION: SHOULD THE PRIME MINISTER MAKE A STATEMENT AND CLEAR THE AIR REGARDING THE APPOINTMENT OF RESHMI USHA RAMNARINE AS SPY CHIEF? WHICH COURSE OF ACTION DO YOU BELIEVE IS BEST SUITED TO BRING CLOSURE TO THIS MATTER?

1. THE PRIME MINISTER THE HONOURABLE KAMLA PERSAD BISSESSAR SHOULD MAKE A FULL STATEMENT TO THE NATION OUTLINING ALL THE FACTS IN THIS MATTER = 67%

2. RESHMI USHA RAMNARINE SHOULD ADDRESS THE MEDIA EXPLAINING THE CHAIN OF EVENTS WHICH EVENTUALLY LED TO HER BEING APPOINTED AS DIRECTOR OF THE SECURITY INTELLIGENCE AGENCY (SIA) = 8 %

3. THE MATTER IS NOT IMPORTANT ENOUGH TO WARRANT A STATEMENT FROM THE PRIME MINISTER ON THE MATTER = 0%

4. GOVERNMENT HAS SAID ENOUGH, THERE IS NO NEED FOR ANY FURTHER EXPLANATION, THE
GOVERNMENT MUST PRESS ON WITH ITS NATIONAL AGENDA

Report of the 6th DAF Social MEDIA POLL: SHOULD THE PRIME MINISTER MAKE A STATEMENT AND CLEAR THE AIR REGARDING THE APPOINTMENT OF RESHMI USHA RAMNARINE AS SPY CHIEF? WHICH COURSE OF ACTION DO YOU BELIEVE IS BEST SUITED TO BRING CLOSURE TO THIS MATTER?

Figure 3 is a Bar Graph illustrating in percentages the selections made by contributors of the 6th DAF Social Media Poll in relation to the question and selection answers in figure 1.

From the information charted in figures 1, 2, and 3, it is clearly illustrated that 67% of contributors believe 1. The Prime Minister the Honourable Kamla Persad Bissessar should make a full statement to the nation outlining all the facts in this matter. Whilst 25% agreed that Government has said enough, there is no need for any further explanation, the Government must press on with its national agenda . 8% of contributors are of the belief that Reshmi Usha Ramnarine should address the media explaining the chain of events which eventually led to her being appointed as director of the Security Intelligence Agency (SIA). No contributors agreed to the matter is not important enough to warrant a statement from the prime minister on the matter” neither did anyone choose the option “can’t say”.

Sample size:

4 % of David Fraser’s Group voted on this poll through Facebook . The difference with this poll as compared to previous DAF polls is simply this, the speed at which this 4% voted. Such an early response in relation to the time the poll was opened indicates clearly that social awareness is high. It is with this awareness that we are equipped to move forward and improve society.

How Sample Was Taken:

The sample was taken by way of information collated from the online contribution made by Members of David Fraser’s Group on Facebook. Members indicated their selections by voting through this group. Members were contacted via Facebook inbox messages as well as a visible poll on the David Fraser Group’s page. Information was analyzed and presented in relation to the percentage of Members who casted their vote via this social media poll.

Conclusion:

The 6th DAF Social Media Poll clearly indicates that the largest percent of contributors are in favour of receiving further explanation from the Prime Minister the Honourable Kamla Persad Bissessar should make a full statement to the nation outlining all the facts in this matter. Whilst 25% believe it is time to move on from this issue. This leaves 8% preferring that Reshmi Usha Ramnarine address the media explaining the chain of events which eventually led to her being appointed as director of the Security Intelligence Agency (SIA).

Do note that the result of an early response time of Members of David Fraser’s Group voting in this poll is a positive indication that we are on the continued path to success. Together we are touching and improving lives country by country.
